Ole Miss offensive tackle Greg Little."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareSharePackers hosting Ole Miss tackle Greg Little for pre-draft visitNelson Chenault-USA TODAY SportsWith the 2019 NFL Draft quickly approaching Dean Lowry Jersey White , the Green Bay Packers will meet with another prospect on Monday. Ole Miss offensive tackle Greg Little traveled to Wisconsin Sunday for an official pre-draft meeting with the team, according to a post on his Instagram. Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse first reported the development.A 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman, Little entered the draft process as one of the top prospects at his position. He served as Ole Miss’ starting left tackle for the past three seasons, earning two All-SEC nods along the way. In addition to Little’s massive frame, he possesses 35.5-inch arms and 10.25-inch hands, both ideal sizes for an NFL offensive tackle. However, Little’s performance at the NFL Scouting Combine fell somewhat short of expectation. He produced subpar scores in the 40-yard dash (5.33 seconds), the jumps (113-inch broad, 25-inch vertical), and short shuttle (4.74 seconds), leaving talent evaluators to question his athleticism. Those concerns could push Little outside the first round and into Day 2 of April’s draft.Still, with the Packers felt it pertinent to meet with Little and determine whether he can thrive in Matt LaFleur’s offense. Starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga will hit free agency next offseason, and his age and health could deter the team from re-signing him. If so, perhaps Little could step in and become a long-term fixture opposite All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari.NFL teams have 30 pre-draft visits they can use on rookie prospects. However, the Packers haven’t always utilized those visits with their top picks, selecting 2018 cornerback prospect Jaire Alexander in the first round despite not hosting him for a meeting. Mason Crosby’s missed kicks cost the Packers."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCSTShareTweetShareSharePackers 2018 Roster Grades: Special Teams were a nightmare in 2018Tim Fuller-USA TODAY SportsOver a two-week span, we at Acme Packing Company are breaking down the 2017 Green Bay Packers position-by-position. Today we conclude the analysis with a look at the Packers’ special teams units.Kicker: Mason Crosby30/37 Field Goals (81.1%) 34/36 Extra Points (94.4%)Looking at the stats of Mason Crosby’s year, it doesn’t fall far from his career percentages. Crosby has a career percentage of 80.4% on field goals and 98% on extra points. Those looking in from the outside wouldn’t think anything of that but those of us who watched this year know it’s a different story. Call it extremely bad luck as every kick, except for the missed PAT against Buffalo, had a major ramification on a game. Crosby’s first miss came at the end of regulation against the Vikings http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-jake-ryan-jersey , that game ended in a tie. The infamous game in Detroit, Crosby missed four field goals and one extra point. That’s 13 points left on the field in a game the Packers lost by eight. He missed a field goal in the first quarter against Seattle when the Packers lost by three, and he missed a field goal with under two minutes left to go in the three point loss to the Cardinals. That’s a rough year.It was also a down year for Crosby on kickoffs. He only had touchbacks on 41 of his 83 kickoffs. That’s a 49.3% and the only kicker that had a lower percentage than that was Sam Martin in Detroit (46.5%).If we turn to the positives, Crosby was 5-7 from over 50 yards with a long of 53. He missed just two field goals and one extra point in Green Bay. That is an accomplishment in itself. With the bad weather and wind that can fill Lambeau Field, Green Bay is one of the toughest places to kick in the league. Crosby also bounced back well from that disastrous Detroit game. The next week, he went 3/3 on extra points and 4/4 in field goals including the game winning field goal against San Francisco. He wound up as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for that performance.Punter: JK Scott71 punts, 3,176 yards gross, 44.7 gross average, 38.8 net average, one blocked punt, nine touchbacks, 19 downed inside the 20 (26.7%)JK Scott was a fifth round draft pick in 2018 and made last year’s punter, Justin Vogel, expendable. Oddly enough, looking back at Vogel’s stats from 2017, they were almost identical punters. Vogel had a slightly higher net average but the potential of Scott was worth the draft pick. Scott’s long frame lets him generate a lot of power out of his leg and his most noticeable trait is that he rarely lets his plant foot come off the ground when he punts. While his average (44.7) is in the lower half of the league, the biggest positive is that he gets a hang time close to five seconds. That led to 26 fair catches, which was second in the league. Hopefully, new special teams coach, Sean Mennenga Womens Oren Burks Jersey , can work with Scott to improve his distance while keeping that hang time.Long Snapper: Hunter BradleyBradley was selected in the seventh round in 2018 and replaced the trio of Brent Goode, Taybor Pepper and Derek Hart from 2017. Goode was a mainstay in Green Bay since 2008 but it was time to find someone younger going forward.Bradley had a very good year as far as long snappers go. While he did have one bad snap that lead to a blocked punt, he did not have the same consistency troubles that Pepper or Hart had last year. Bradley doesn’t offer much in the realm of covering kicks as he ended up with only one tackle but very few if any long snappers provide much in coverage anymore. Kick Returners: Ty Montgomery, Bashaud Breeland, J’Mon Moore, Jamaal Williams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Trevor DavisOne of the biggest flaws of the 2018 special teams came in the return game. The Packers had absolutely no one who provided a consistent return game or even pose a threat to opponents. The best returner the Packers had was Trevor Davis. While Davis has the speed and shiftiness to be a very good returner, he was snake bitten with injuries all year. Davis only got into two games midway through the season where he only got one kick return for 20 yards. With Davis succumbed to injuries at the start of year, the Packers turned to Ty Montgomery. Montgomery returned kicks last year and has been very average at best. Montgomery averaged 20 yards on his ten kick returns. Montgomery was traded to Baltimore after he decided to take a kick out of the end zone and fumbled with just over two minutes left in the game versus the Rams. That denied Aaron Rodgers the chance to run the two minute drill and the Packers lost by two points. After the Montgomery trade, the Packers tried many faces on kick return but never settled on one person more than the other. Bashaud Breeland got the most returns with eight but averaged only 21.6 yards per return. Jamaal Williams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Davis got their chance but also only averaged in the low twenties per return as well. If there is a little hope it might have been with J’Mon Moore. While he only had four returns on the year, he averaged 25.5 yards per return. While that’s nothing to go crazy about, with more work, maybe being a return man could be in Moore’s future. At least it could give the Packers an option after Davis in 2019.Punt Returners: Tramon Williams, Randall Cobb, Trevor Davis, Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson, Kevin KingPunt returner was just as big an issue as the kick returner. With Trevor Davis injured most of the year, the Packers didn’t have many options here either so they seemed to try anyone. While it was only two games Brett Favre Jersey , Davis was the best returner. He had four returns and averaged 11 yards per return. The Packers did try some of the young players with Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson and Kevin King. Jackson and King only had three attempts on the season but all were fair caught. The electric Alexander, how had a history of being a good returner in college, only got four attempts and averaged 6.3 yards per. For the most consistency, the Packers turned to Tramon Williams and Randall Cobb. Williams got the most chances as he had 12 returns for and averaged, a team leading, 6.9 yards per attempt. When he was healthy, Randall Cobb also got some punt returns. Cobb averaged 6.6 yards on his seven attempts. Not much to brag about with these two as far as average went but they stepped up when the Packers needed them and tried to give the team a spark like when they were younger.Overall Grade: FLooking at the main special teams players in Mason Crosby, JK Scott and Hunter Bradley, giving a F might be a little harsh. Between the three of them, I probably would have been more generous and given a D. However, we have to look at the bigger picture here. With the mess that was the return game adding into the poor coverage teams that Ron Zook lead out there week after week, the only option was to give an F.I can’t remember a time when the coverage and return games were so poor. From all the successful fake punts against, to the fake field goal against New England, the Packers just never seemed prepared or had given the proper time to practice for what each team threw at them. Gladly, it lead to the end of Ron Zook as special teams coordinator. Sean Mennenga takes over in 2019 and he will have his hands full. Let’s hope he gets Mason Crosby back on track and keeps developing JK Scott. Still, the biggest concern will be in the return game. Getting Trevor Davis healthy will be a big help, otherwise the Packers need to put a high priority finding someone in free agency or the draft.

Kirk Cousins knows he’s got a lot of work to do before the regular season. The Vikings quarterback was clearly frustrated by his final preseason performance Brett Jones Jersey , an ugly 3-of-13 for 35 yard passing day which included two sacks.“Really disappointing performance,’’ Cousins said, via Chris Tomasson of the . “Put it on me. It wasn’t good enough. If we play that way during the season, it’s going to be a very tough year. We have to be much better than we were [Saturday]. And I really should say I have to be much better than I was. It’s about as simple as that.”The Vikings gained just 35 yards in the first half, if you don’t count Dalvin Cook‘s 85-yard touchdown run.“We’ve got to be a lot better,’’ Cousins said. “Thankfully, I know we can be better. . . . I said to the centers and quarterbacks as we took the field for warm-ups, every time you step out there, this is your resume. You have to put your name on it, whether it’s preseason, regular season, postseason. . . . I’m disappointed that I’ve got to put my name on [Saturday’s game], and it’s the kind of thing that I’ll be pretty cranky with my wife when I go home.’’Coach Mike Zimmer was critical of his team’s performance, down to their speed getting in and out of the huddle. Along with dropped passes and penalties, it was a forgettable performance, in their final tune-up before their opener against the Falcons. On offense, they needed a running back to replace Latavius Murray and complement Dalvin Cook Dan Bailey Jersey , a tight end of the future, and they could still use another lineman. The defense was more set, but depth on the line, at linebacker, and cornerback were areas that could have been taken care of.After three picks and four trades, the Vikings got three really good football players. In the second round, Minnesota selected TE Irv Smith from Alabama, a guy who might be the best catch-block combo tight end in the draft. In the third round, they took Boise St RB Alexander Mattison after several trades down to the bottom of the round. Mattison looks like a guy that can step right in to the Murray role, and he is a ball of hate when he’s toting the rock. When you add in first round pick Garrett Bradbury, a guy you can pencil in to start on the o-line today, Minnesota has three guys that will contribute significantly right away, and that’s a good thing. It’s also the first time in the Mike ZImmer era that the Vikings have gone offense with their first three picks,I really like all three players, just so that’s on the record. My only quibble, at least last night, was the amount of trading GM Rick Spielman did do get to where the Vikings sit this morning. The Vikes stayed put in the second round when they drafted Smith (pick 50 overall), but the third round was a wild one. They started out at pick 81, which they traded to Detroit. Did anyone else get 2010 Chris Cook flashbacks when that happened Tom Compton Jersey , or was that just me? Just me? Okay, then. After the Lions trade, the Vikes moved down again, to 92, in a trade with Seattle, and I thought they were done. That trade netted them a fifth rounder, which they didn’t have going into the draft, and if my math is right that gave Spielman his magical ten picks. But no, there were two more trades coming! First there was a move one spot down to 93, and they finally ended up with the last pick of the third round, 102.As the Vikings enter the last four rounds today, they have a whopping nine picks—one each in the fourth and fifth rounds, four in the sixth round, and three in the seventh. We can debate and argue as to whether or not Minnesota should have stayed at 81 and picked someone, or even at 92 or 93, and those conversations are already raging. I mean look, the chances of finding a good player is a lot better the earlier you pick, because duh, but consider this information from our old friend Arif Hasan:So by some more advanced metrics Alexander Mattison Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , the Vikings came out ahead on these trades and have an opportunity to find a couple of really good diamonds in the rough. If you have faith in the scouting department that found Everson Griffen (fourth round), Jarius Wright (fourth), Shamar Stephen (seventh), Stefon Diggs (fifth), and Jayron Kearse (seventh), the chances of the Vikings hitting on one or two of these picks seems decent. However, if you’re of the mind that these are the same guys that drafted T.J. Clemmings, Willie Beavers, MoBo, and the other litany of late round picks that never worked out, you’re probably irritated as Hell right now, and I understand the frustration. But consider this: The Vikings have a ton of draft capital today to either move up in the fourth round, up in the fifth round, up in the fourth AND fifth round, or maybe swing a deal and get an extra 4 or 5.And there are a TON of good players still available. For me, the bottom line is that the Vikings got a lot better on paper the last two days on offense, and they have enough picks left to move up and target players they want, which Rick Spielman has a history of doing.Let’s see how today pans out.

I hope everyone’s having a great start to their day. It’s pretty amazing to see the content and quality of articles essentially drop off a cliff when the headlines aren’t writing themselves. This is the first time in a long time I’ve had to question my loyalty to the dysfunctional atrocity known as the New York Jets. Regardless of how you feel, this past week has shown an extreme lack of competence from ownership, which is honestly startling. Maccagnan had to go, period. But the entire sequence of events leaves nothing but a bad taste in my mouth, and it really shows how clueless Chris Johnson is in his role. At this point it’s pretty close to beating a dead horse, but these guys have literally no one to blame but themselves at this point. If a common fan can see through the ineptitude of Maccagnan 2 years ago Jachai Polite NFL Draft , why couldn’t ownership? Why wait and allow Mike Maccagnan to go through the draft, and free agency—signing players to long term deals—if he wasn’t going to be a part of the ‘future’. It’s easy for some to look past this because of their hatred for Maccagnan, and as his biggest ‘hater’, I should probably feel the same—but I don’t. Even the Buttfumble debacle didn’t embarrass me this much because at least Mark was trying to make a play due to the RB’s incompetence to realize it was a run play. This? There’s no excuse for this, and there really won’t be. If fans were so quick to put out banners and billboards previously, why not start targeting the Johnson’s? With them at the helm, I really don’t see this franchise ever making it to the next level. as the 13th head coach in their franchise’s history. Flores held various roles for the New England Patriots between 2004-18 Infant Yodny Cajuste Jersey , most recently as the de facto defensive coordinator. Flores won Super Bowls XXIX, XLIX, LI, and LIII with the PatriotsI think the Dolphins have a good one in Flores, who has spent time in the Patriots’ front office, in addition to coaching the offense and special teams before settling in on defense. Every single player loves Flores and his ability to connect with his players, while also putting every player in position to succeed on the field.Flores is expect to bring a host of former Patriots coaches with him down to Miami in order to establish a new culture. Patriots wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea is expected to be the offensive coordinator, while assistant quarterback coach Jerry Schuplinski should take on the full time position. Flores is also expected to reunite with former Patriots defensive coach Patrick Graham, who is likely to be the defensive coordinator, and former Patriots tight ends coach George Godsey, who is expected to have the same role in Miami. This means that the Patriots will have some vacancies on offense Yodny Cajuste Jersey Draft , although they should be ready to fill them. DeMarcus Covington is currently in his second season as an offensive assistant and is a former wide receiver (his coaching experience is on the defensive side of the ball). Atif Austin just completed his first season, but I project him to eventually take over for Ivan Fears as a running backs coach, like I expect Cole Popovich to take over for Dante Scarnecchia. On the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots will have to fill Flores’ old position as linebackers coach. Defensive assistants that could take on larger roles are Mike Pellegrino, in his fourth season with the team, and Brian Belichick, in his third season.Bret Bielema, a consultant to the head coach, and former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano are both in discussion to lead the New England defense, although Brendan Daly is considered the in-house favorite. I could see the Patriots shuffling their defensive coaching staff in a major way.Congratulations to Brian Flores on the new job. It’s well earned. ATLANTA (AP) — In two years, Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower still has never heard Stephon Gilmore yell. Not in practice. Not in a game. Not ever.“He’s stays quiet Yodny Cajuste NFL Jersey , it’s not just because y’all are in here,” Hightower said with a chuckle this week. “He doesn’t talk. He’s a mute.”Gilmore’s also — silently — assumed the role of lockdown cornerback for New England as it prepares to face two of the NFL’s top two receivers in its Super Bowl matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.Being tasked to guard an opponents’ top receiver won’t be anything new for Gilmore, who is in his second season with the Patriots after leaving Buffalo and signing a five-year, $65 million free agent deal in 2017.There were some shortcomings this season. Notably when New England’s secondary struggled in the second half of its narrow regular-season victory over Kansas City, allowing Tyreek Hill to catch three touchdown passes. But more times than not, Gilmore has lived up to the challenge. He combined with J.C. Jackson and Keion Crossen to limit Hill to one catch and no touchdowns in the Patriots’ AFC championship game win over the Chiefs. And he’s only allowed two catches on the 10 passes thrown in his direction during the postseason.Gilmore had a career-high 20 passes defensed during the regular season, the second most in the NFL behind Chicago’s Kyle Fuller (21). His previous high was 18 with Buffalo in 2015. He’s also had two or more passes defensed in four of his past five playoff games, including his first career playoff interception against the Chargers in the divisional round.“I kind of let my game do the talking,” Gilmore said. “I try to play my game regardless of who I’m going against. Some people can handle it, some people can’t.”It helped the 28-year-old earn All-Pro honors for the first time in his career, becoming just the fourth Patriots cornerback to be named to the first team. He joins Ty Law (1998 Yodny Cajuste NFL Draft , 2003), Asante Samuel (2007) and Darrelle Revis (2014).But for a guy who tries to maintain a low profile, it’s not something he’s trying to put a lot of stock in right now.“That’s a big accomplishment. But the one thing I wanted was a Super Bowl ring and I’m gonna try to do whatever it takes to get that done,” he said.Last season Gilmore’s contract was a conversation topic in New England with Malcolm Butler — star of the Patriots’ Super Bowl win over Seattle in the 2014 season — not being offered the contract extension he was looking for from the Patriots.Gilmore started slowly in 2017 and appeared in only 13 games, missing two starts because of a concussion. He finished with two interceptions, but had only nine passes defensed.Butler signed with Tennessee in free agency in the offseason, making Gilmore the top cornerback in the Patriots secondary.Gilmore said he entered training camp focused on improvement.“To me it doesn’t really matter what happened in the past. You just gotta learn from it and get better,” he said. The Patriots will need someone to step up on Sunday, with the Rams trotting out two 1,200-yard receivers in Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks, who was traded by New England to Los Angeles last summer.Gilmore’s practice battles with Cooks are fresh in his mind and he’s also played with Woods in Buffalo. The practice field has been Gilmore’s sanctuary this season Yodny Cajuste Buffalo Bills Jersey , teammate and fellow cornerback Jason McCourty said.“He doesn’t even let guys catch the ball in walkthroughs. That’s kind of his mindset and his demeanor,” McCourty said. “He goes out there, he takes the field and his one job is to shut whoever he’s guarding down and that’s something that he’s done on a week-in, week-out basis for us this season.”Hightower said Gilmore’s work ethic is contagious across the defense.“There will be days when you want to be lackadaisical and you might not want to push yourself. Then you see Steph running from one hash to the other hash guarding a guy on a route, pushing his leverage,” Hightower said. “When you see a guy work like that day in and day out, you can’t help but push yourself with whatever you’re going through.”With a second consecutive shot at a Super Bowl ring, Gilmore said he’ll be drawing on everything he’s learned over the past two seasons.“I’ve learned a lot about myself just trying to be consistent,” Gilmore said. “Just really trusting my teammates. I’ve learned a lot of football. I’m smarter than I was last year, just from coaches putting me in the best position to make plays.“Now I’m the Super Bowl in position to finish everything off.”

to their defense in the 2016 offseason and they may only have cornerback Janoris Jenkins left on the roster in 2019.Defensive tackle Damon Harrison was traded to the Lions last year and there are multiple reports that the team has discussed trading Olivier Vernon. Vernon Corey Ballentine Jersey Draft , who moved from defensive end to outside linebacker last year, has two years left on his contract with cap hits of $19.5 million each year. The Giants can clear $11.5 million of that space by parting ways with him and they could be searching for a trade partner in hopes of getting compensation for a player rather than just releasing him.Whether others are clamoring to pick up that contract is unclear. Vernon has 22 sacks and four forced fumbles over the last three seasons, but missed nine games due to injury and his price tag may be prohibitive unless the group of free agent edge players continues to dry up.Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham signed an extension Friday and other players like DeMarcus Lawrence, Frank Clark and Jadeveon Clowney could be headed for franchise tags before Tuesday’s deadline. The Giants drafted left guard Will Hernandez in the second round of last year’s draft and he turned out to be an immediate starter up front.Hernandez was one of the stronger players on a line that was playing much better at the end of the year than the start and the Giants made moves this offseason designed to build on that improvement. One of those moves was trading for Kevin Zeitler Corey Ballentine NFL Jersey , who has been installed as their starting right guard.Zeitler should be an upgrade over what the Giants had last season, but his role in making the line better extends beyond his spot on the field. Hernandez cited Zeitler’s instruction as something that’s made him better heading into his second season.“He’s been phenomenal, not only as a player but as a teacher, too Corey Ballentine NFL Draft ,” Hernandez said, via the team’s website. “He’s taught a lot of young guys, including myself, a lot of technique. He was one of the top pass protectors in the league last year Corey Ballentine Buffalo Bills Jersey , so he definitely has a lot to offer and he’s passing it on to the young guys, myself also, and we’re really glad to have him.”Giants quarterback Eli Manning said recently that he believes the team’s offense can be better in 2019 than it was last year. If that’s the case, improvement from Hernandez and the line as a whole is likely to play a big role.

Already, training camp is littered with ACL & Achilles tears, high-ankle sprains, and cart-offs for precautionary measures, ending seasons before meaningful games are even played! While the Buffalo Bills have avoided most of these issues, they are not exempt from injuries. Most of the injuries are minor White Andre Reed Jerseys , but concerning enough that it may impact training camp battles. TE Jason Croom and TE Dawson Knox: hamstring strainsTight ends Jason Croom and Dawson Knox both suffered hamstring strains during the first days of training camp. Any type of muscle strains are not uncommon as activity level increases and with players working out in the heat can. Considering Croom is fighting for his roster spot and Knox is trying to adjust to the NFL, every rep lost is worrisome as the tight end position has had nearly a full turnover from last season. There’s always the possibility that Croom could be dealing with some sort of back issue such as a disc or facet that is aggravated through specific activities causing pain down the sciatic nerve, which is the same location that the hamstring resides. However, this is totally speculation as I have not evaluated him. I have no other reports such as specific pain patterns, known previous injury to the area, or specific mechanisms of injury. Until then, I can only safely go off of what the team reports. Both players will be able to return soon once they have been cleared and feel they can participate. Hamstring strains can take 1-2 weeks to recover with more severe strains taking longer. WR Zay Jones: back/hamstring Jones has not been limited with reps or been listed as injured, but there is a video of him being assessed by trainers and being worked on with what appears to be back complaints. This is evident with the trainer pushing on both hips and assessing the right lower leg, moving the hip into full flexion, indicating there may be low back or SI joint tightness. He did not have any compensation in his running or known injuries, which leads me to believe that he’s dealing with some general tightness performing football-related activities. Jones was out during minicamp, which may be related to what is going on now—but far from a strong correlation. In The Athletic’s Joe Buscalgia interview with head coach Sean McDermott, he revealed that Jones had been dealing with a hamstring strain during the offseason. However, outside of the video of him getting worked on by trainers, I do not see anything else concerning his movements. This will be something to note if he continues to experience difficulties. C Mitch Morse: ConcussionThe big fish from the free-agent haul of March is already starting to show some chinks in the armor with a newly-diagnosed concussion that is now his fourth confirmed in the NFL. Morse had a veteran maintenance day Sunday followed by an off day Monday before reporting concussion symptoms to the medical team Tuesday. While this is concerning due to his previous concussion history, there is optimism to come out of this. According to reports, he is performing cardiovascular and strength training with trainers indicating that he is at least in Stage 3 of the concussion protocol. There are five stages to the entire protocol and while each concussion is unique Andre Reed Jerseys 2019 , there is hope that he can return in the coming days to get valuable reps, the likes of which he missed all spring. C/G Spencer Long: knee sorenessLong missed Wednesday’s practice with what was described as knee soreness. Outside of a picture of him on a bike with a compression sleeve on, there’s little information available. Long did miss two games last year with a knee injury during his time with the New York Jets but no specifics regarding the injury are available. Noting that he did return to practice the next day with a hinged knee brace indicates that he may have tweaked his knee, requiring the medial/lateral stability from the brace in order to perform drills and play more effectively. Unfortunately, he sat out Friday’s practice and was observed with another compression sleeve on the knee to control for any inflammation he may still be dealing with. This may be something to watch as time progresses but this isn’t ideal as Morse is currently out, leaving Russell Bodine as the only healthy center.OL Jon Feliciano: legFeliciano was observed getting up slowly Thursday but was also reported to be alright after practice. However, during Friday’s practice at New Era Field, Feliciano once again went down with a leg injury that required him to go into the tunnel with trainers, ending his night. It’s unknown what he’s dealing with, but it’s something that may cost him a practice or two. OL Jeremiah Sirles: foot fxSirles was released Wednesday with an injury settlement. This means that the team has calculated how long he will be out with his current injury, they can pay him that amount, and release him. This releases the team from liability and allows Sirles to find a new team once healthy. He could return to Buffalo at a later date, but would have to return six weeks after the time frame that the team paid him out, which places a Sirles return at least three months from now.TE Tyler Kroft: foot fxWhile Kroft is still a ways away from practicing and playing in games, there’s positive news that he is now out of his walking boot. From this, he may be two weeks ahead of schedule but still not ready to play during the regular season. He’s still slated to start the season on the PUP and return mid-season. He’s one player who should not be rushed back under any circumstances.K Stephen Hauschka: ankleDE Jerry Hughes: ankleDT Robert Thomas: knee S Micah Hyde: neckOT Quentin Spain: footDE Shaq Lawson: kneeWR Robert Foster: shoulder All of these injuries were reported by various sources over the past few days. These injuries have also not been noted as anything concerning or reasons for their respective injuries. Without further information, my theory is that these are precautionary measures to ensure long-term health. It’s quite possible that these injuries would not even be noted during the regular season or limit their availability. Until more information can be had White Harrison Phillips Jerseys , speculation is extremely limited. Going into those with some known detail, Hauschka regularly wraps his left ankle—which is his plant leg—but is fully healthy according to The Athletic’s Matthew Fairburn. He was also making easy 40-plus-yard field goals during practice, which indicates that his ankle is not an issue nor that his lower back from last season is a concern.Spain was listed with foot soreness but the mechanism of injury is not available at this moment. Hughes and Hyde are said to be nursing minor injuries with only Hughes returning for Friday’s practice. Thomas went down during 1-on-1 drills and was unable to return Tuesday. Lawson was observed getting twisted and forced down to his knee by Dion Dawkins on Thursday, which brought initial concern, but it was later reported that he was moving around fine. Foster was assessed by trainers due to some type of shoulder injury, but was quickly able to return to play and no mention has been made of it since the 27th.These initial injury reports may be more storylines to acknowledge, merely day-to-day injuries, but may lead to a dead end sooner than we think. While not an injury, the signing of OL Nico Siragusa was a big one for him personally as he attempts to make the roster following an ACL, MCL, & PCL year two years ago shortly after he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. He was released and on the active roster for the Green Bay Packers late last year but still has not seen an NFL snap. Practice will identify whether he has anything left after missing two years of football. TE Kyle Carter was signed due to the injuries at tight end. He’s far from a lock to make the roster due to the upside of those who are injured eventually returning and he may end up just being a camp body. Outside of the Morse injury, there’s not an initial concern for the long-term complications with most of the injuries. These injuries will happen and while not ideal, this is still far better than the luck that this franchise has had in previous seasons with training-camp injuries. Hopefully everyone can return from their maladies and learn their respective positions so that they can move back towards the office. Make sure to follow @BangedUpBills for the latest injury news & @BuffRumblings on Twitter for the latest training camp notes as they happen.

Britton Colquitt Jersey , the Cleveland Browns suddenly merit keeping an eye on.Are they legitimate playoff contenders yet? Of course not; only their most ardent fans would say so.Still, the Browns — owners of just one victory over the previous two entire seasons combined — are a club that now matters, not just because they’re capable of winning, as they did 35-20 against the falling-apart Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but also because they have some real characters.First and foremost, of course, both on and off the field, is Mayfield, the Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall draft pick who helped the Browns (4-6-1) end a 25-game road losing skid that was one shy of the NFL record. After tossing four TD passes and zero interceptions, he made sure to get in his shots against his former head coach, Hue Jackson, who was fired by Cleveland less than a month ago and quickly took a job with the Bengals as a defensive assistant.Afterward, when they met on the field for a handshake, Mayfield resisted what appeared to be Jackson’s attempt to bring him in for a hug. Then, speaking to reporters, Mayfield took what could only be construed as a jab at Jackson and the also-fired Todd Haley, the Browns’ former offensive coordinator Tyrod Taylor Jersey , saying: “We have people that we believe in calling the plays now.”Wide-eyes emoji!“Didn’t feel like talking,” Mayfield said of his brief postgame interaction with Jackson. “Left Cleveland, goes down to Cincinnati. … It’s just somebody that was in our locker room asking us to play for him and then goes to a different team we play twice a year. Everybody can have their spin on it. But that’s how I feel.”There was more, too. When Browns safety Damarious Randall grabbed a pick in the first half, he ended up out of bounds on the Bengals’ sideline and handed the ball right to Jackson. Hmmmm. With Mayfield joined on offense by dynamic running back Nick Chubb — the fourth rookie in league history with rushing and receiving touchdowns in consecutive games — and young talent such as Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward on defense, plus the sort of swagger Randall showed, it looks as if the Browns might no longer provide the must-not-see-TV they’ve offered for quite some time.In case you missed it, here are other top topics after the NFL season’s 12th Sunday:FOSTER’S CASEThe most important takeaway from San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster’s arrest on a domestic violence charge could be what, if anything, the NFL ends up doing about it. The 49ers said Sunday they’ll put Foster on waivers; spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league is reviewing the matter.FIGHT!As this season spirals out of control, Doug Marrone’s Jacksonville Jaguars keep finding new ways to embarrass themselves. The latest example: Running back Leonard Fournette, who went from his team’s sideline to the opposite sideline to throw punches at Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson near the stands in Buffalo’s 24-21 victory. As if that weren’t enough, the scrap spilled into the tunnel after both players were ejected. Fournette might have been able to help the Jags (3-8) avoid a seventh loss in a row had he remained in the game. Plus, as Hall of Famer Deion Sanders put it on the NFL Network: “This fool ran across the field?!”RIVERS THREW ITHe wasn’t exactly facing much of an opponent, but Chargers QB Philip Rivers sure turned in a performance to remember, completing 25 straight passes and finishing with a 96.6 completion percentage (connecting on 28 of 29 throws) — both single-game NFL records — to help LA top the Arizona Cardinals 45-10 and improve to 8-3. “It was a fun day, to say the least Baker Mayfield Color Rush Jersey ,” Rivers said.LUCK COULD RUN OUTGive Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich credit for creative play designs, having Andrew Luck run pass routes in back-to-back games, including one that resulted in a 4-yard catch on fourth down to move the sticks on a TD drive in Sunday’s 27-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins. But, the coolness of Luck’s first career reception aside, someone also needs to remind Reich that his team’s success depends largely on Luck — and that the QB missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. So maybe it’s time to put those trick plays back in Reich’s pocket. HOUSTON (AP) — After the Houston Texans extended their franchise record with a ninth straight win on Sunday, J.J. Watt was asked to reflect on how far the team has come in the past year.“I was on the couch a year ago so this is a lot better,” said Watt, who missed the last 11 games of Houston’s 4-12 2017 season with a broken leg. “I was in a lot of pain. So it’s good for us to be winning …this is what it’s supposed to feel like. Honestly this is how you dream it up.”Deshaun Watson threw a touchdown pass and the Texans intercepted rookie Baker Mayfield three times, returning one for a score, to get the 29-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday that extended the streak.Article continues below ...The Texans (9-3), who opened the season 0-3, haven’t lost since Sept. 23 to take a commanding lead atop the AFC South. While they appreciate what they’ve done to turn things around, they’re quick to note that they still have plenty of work left to do.“It means a lot especially from where we came from 0-3 … but it’s not the Super Bowl so we’re still fighting,” receiver DeAndre Hopkins said.Houston raced out to a 23-0 halftime lead and added two second-half field goals by Ka’imi Fairbairn to give him five on Sunday.Mayfield, the top overall pick in this year’s draft, had his worst game of the season, throwing three interceptions for the first time since he was a freshman at Texas Tech in 2013. He entered the game having thrown nine touchdown passes with just one interception in the past three games as the Browns (4-7-1) won consecutive games for the first time since 2014.Mayfield lamented the mistakes he made in this one.“(If) I would’ve taken care of the ball https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Emmanuel-Ogbah-Jersey , this game would’ve been very close,” he said.He finished with 397 yards passing and had a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter after throwing a career-best four in a win over the Bengals last week. Houston’s fearsome pass rush, led by Watt and Jadeveon Clowney didn’t sack Mayfield, but they hurried and harassed him for much of the day.His interceptions all came before halftime to help the Texans build the big early lead.“He probably wasn’t feeling too dangerous in the first half, but he was feeling a little more dangerous in the second half,” Watt said.Houston was up 3-0 after an early field goal when Watson, who finished with 224 yards, connected with rookie Jordan Thomas on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Hopkins set up that score when he made a 24-yard reception after T.J. Carrie grabbed his dreadlocks in an attempt to slow him down two plays earlier.Zach Cunningham made it 17-0 when he grabbed his first career interception and ran 38 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Officials first ruled him down at the 1, but the play was reviewed and changed to a touchdown.Kareem Jackson was called for a 47-yard pass interference penalty on Cleveland’s next drive to put the Browns at their 20. But Mayfield threw another interception two plays later and it was returned 18 yards by Johnathan Joseph.Houston added another field goal to make it 20-0 with about three minutes left in the second quarter.Mayfield’s third interception came late in the second quarter when Andre Hal grabbed the ball in the end zone.Lamar Miller had 103 yards rushing for his second straight 100-yard game and fourth of the season and Hopkins had seven receptions for 91 yards.Cleveland continued to struggle in late-season games, and the Browns fell to 9-39 in December and January games since 2008.Nick Chubb got the Browns on the board in the third quarter when his 2-yard TD run cut the lead to 23-7 with about 9½ minutes left. Rashard Higgins had a 17-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, but the 2-point conversion failed to leave the Browns down 29-13.Houston added another field goal after that before a mistake-filled possession by the Browns. First Mayfield threw what looked to be a 76-yard touchdown pass to rookie Antonio Callaway, but it was brought back because of a holding penalty by left tackle Greg Robinson. Two plays later, Mayfield connected with Callaway again and he gained 71 yards before rookie Justin Reid chased him down from behind and knocked the ball out of his hands just before he would have scored. It bounced into the end zone where it was recovered by the Texans.“It was just trying to make something happen,” Reid said. “I didn’t want him to score so just make a play on the ball and see if it would come out. Good thing for us it did.”INJURIESCleveland cornerback Denzel Ward left in the first half with a concussion. … Browns defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi injured his biceps in the second quarter and didn’t return. … Joseph didn’t return after injuring his neck in the second quarter. … LB Brennan Scarlett injured his leg and didn’t return. … Houston offensive tackle Kendall Lamm left in the second half with a concussion.REMEMBERING PRESIDENT BUSHThe Texans observed a moment of silence before the game for former President George H.W. Bush, who died on Friday night in Houston at 94. Bush was a frequent visitor to Houston’s games and had participated in the coin toss at several contests. During the moment of silence pictures of Bush at various games were shown on the video screens flanked by huge 41’s made out of a collage of pictures as a further tribute to the nation’s 41st president.UP NEXTBrowns: Host the Panthers next Sunday.Texans: Host the Colts next Sunday.

GREEN BAY https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Geronimo-Allison-Jersey , Wis. (AP) — Packers receiver Geronimo Allison will miss Green Bay’s game against the New England Patriots on Sunday night with multiple injuries. The Packers downgraded Allison from doubtful on Saturday, when the team had a light practice. Allison did not travel to New England. He was a key contributor in the passing game before missing two weeks with a hamstring injury. He had one catch for 14 yards in returning against the Rams last week, then hurt his groin this week in practice.Allison has 20 catches for 303 yards and two scores. His absence likely means more playing time for rookie Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who has touchdown catches in two of his last three games. The Packers added reserve cornerback Tony Brown to the injury report as questionable with a hip injury.Green Bay also signed punter Drew Kaser. The incumbent punter, rookie JK Scott, is not listed on the injury report. Packers fans turned wearing hunks of cheese-colored foam rubber on their heads into a thing. These people obviously have a taste for non-standard collectibles, and perhaps recreational agriculture. The latest must-have for Packers fans is, of course, grass seed; and they’re giving it away as part of the team’s 100-year celebration.According to Richard Ryman of the Oren Burks Jersey , the team is celebrating its birthday on Aug. 11 with a big party which will include free Lambeau Field grass seed, among other freebies. They’re distributing 5,000 pouches of seeds, and 100 of them will be autographed by players including Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Kenny Clark, Jaire Alexander, and Blake Martinez, along with head coach Matt LaFleur Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey , General Manager Brian Gutekunst or team president and CEO Mark Murphy. If for some reason they run out, they’ll happily sell you a pack for $5, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross, and there’s a contest for more seeds autographed by Rodgers. They’re also encouraging fans to follow up by sending in photos of the seeds after they’re sown, and track their progress via social media. That’s right, they want to watch your grass grow.Which, come to think of it, might be more exciting than the last couple of years of Packers football.

BEREA https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Rashard-Higgins-Jersey , Ohio (AP) — Mike McCarthy's connections with the Browns could land him his next job.Dumped by Green Bay on Sunday after 13 seasons, a Super Bowl win and amid a seemingly growing rift with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, McCarthy's candidacy to become Cleveland's next coach has gotten more legitimate. The 55-year-old McCarthy was already being mentioned as a possibility for the Browns, who dismissed Hue Jackson last month and will wait until after the season before hiring his full-time replacement. As far as center JC Tretter is concerned, the Browns couldn't go wrong with McCarthy."I've always enjoyed working with Mike McCarthy," said Tretter, who played four seasons under McCarthy before signing as a free agent with Cleveland in 2017. "I think what he has done in his career in Green Bay has been extraordinary. I think he's a great man, too. I don't have a bad thing to say about Mike McCarthy. He was really an awesome leader and an awesome coach."McCarthy is no stranger to the Browns.General manager John Dorsey, who has revamped Cleveland's roster and is leading the team's coaching search, spent 21 years as an executive in Green Bay and helped hire McCarthy. Browns assistant GM Eliot Wolf, son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf, worked in Green Bay's scouting department for 14 years, and vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith was with the Packers for 19 years before he was hired by Dorsey.Tretter said he can't provide any more information to Cleveland's executives about McCarthy than they have already."They know enough upstairs," Tretter said. "They got Eliot and Alonzo and they've got other guys from the Green Bay organization. I don't think I can bring anything more to the table than they already know. They were with him longer than I was and they were upstairs with him more than I was downstairs with him, so I think they know everything they need to know. I'm just looking forward to seeing the direction we go with this team."Dorsey hasn't revealed much about his plans to hire Cleveland's 17th full-time coach — and sixth in the past 10 years.Interim coach Gregg Williams, who took over for Jackson, will be interviewed; Dorsey has not disclosed who else is on his list. Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley has been mentioned as a possible candidate along with Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Minnesota offensive coordinator John DeFilippo Joe Thomas Jersey , and New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels among the most prominent names being mentioned. It will be tough for any candidate to have a resume as impressive as McCarthy's.He went 125-77-2 in 13 seasons with the Packers, leading them to a Super Bowl title in 2010. However, Green Bay has struggled the past two seasons, missing the playoffs last year for the first time since 2008.The Packers are 4-7-1 this season, with McCarthy's relationship with Rodgers becoming a weekly drama around the team.Tretter knows both men well, and said any of differences have been exaggerated."That whole story line gets a little overblown," Tretter said. "They are just two competitive people and I think they are both competitive in the same direction in that they both want the team to win. They just are very confident in what they think is best for the team to win, so I never really interpreted it as a bad thing."Cleveland's coaching gig has never looked so attractive.Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield has shown signs of being the franchise QB the Browns have coveted for years, and any coach who comes to Cleveland will be required to further develop him.Tretter feels McCarthy would be ideal for Mayfield."They would do great, he said. "He started working with Aaron when Aaron was a rookie, too, and Aaron's developed into a hell of a player, so I think that relationship would be fine. I see a lot of similarities between Aaron and Baker personality-wise, competitiveness, and that's all the things that Aaron came in with, too, when he was a young player, so I think they'd work well together."NOTES: S Denzel Ward remains in concussion protocol after getting hurt in Sunday's loss to Houston. … DL Larry Ogunjobi (biceps) said he doesn't think his injury is serious. Williams said Ogunjobi was still undergoing tests. … The Browns did not put a claim on former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt Chris Hubbard Color Rush Jersey , waived Saturday after a video showed him shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel. Dorsey drafted Hunt in the third round in 2017. interview since being fired by the team last December went live on Wednesday morning and it includes discussion of his relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That relationship was in the crosshairs at various points over McCarthy’s 13 years on the job. Rodgers was the starter for 11 of those seasons and it wasn’t unheard of for him to make public criticisms of the offense or to hear about complaints he made on the sideline about play calls during games.McCarthy told Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com that he was “not aware” of anything that went on during games and used the words “challenging https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Davon-House-Jersey , very rewarding and fun” to describe coaching Rodgers. McCarthy added that the challenging part of things was impossible to avoid given the length of time they spent together.“When I think about my relationship with Aaron, you’re talking about 13 years,” McCarthy said. “That’s a very long time. It’s been a privilege to watch him grow in so many different ways and see him do so many great things on the field and off. To think you can be in a relationship that long and not have any frustrations, that’s unrealistic.”McCarthy called it “a joy” to work with a quarterback as talented as Rodgers and said he feels he’s a better person and coach because of the time the two men spent together. He’ll need to wait a while before putting the better coach portion of that belief to the test, but we’ll get a look at how Rodgers deals with a new head coach much sooner. Turnovers just might be the most important statistic in football.Just ask the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers. The 49ers last week had a 33-10 edge in first downs against Arizona but still lost by 10 following five giveaways. The Packers (2-2-1) almost doubled the Lions in total offense (521-264) and still lost 31-23 after coughing up three turnovers.Guess what the Packers will be focusing on in practice as they prepare to host the 49ers at Lambeau Field on Monday night?“Sometimes that ball bounces your way and sometimes it doesn’t. But you have to create more opportunities,” coach Mike McCarthy said on Thursday. “We’ve created too many giveaway opportunities and we clearly don’t have enough takeaway opportunities.”A team considered one of the top contenders in the NFC is off to a choppy start. Other than a 22-0 win over Buffalo, the Packers have alternated one bad half with one good one.The first half has been the problem in three games, which has forced Green Bay to play catch-up. It worked in the season opener, when Aaron Rodgers tossed three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter for a 24-23 win over Chicago after falling behind 20-0.But slow starts have doomed the Packers in losses at Washington and Detroit. Against the Lions last week Bryan Bulaga Jersey , the Packers fell behind 24-0 at the half before losing 31-23.“That’s not how you start games and expect to win, especially against a good opponent. We’ve got to start faster than that,” receiver Davante Adams said after the Detroit loss. The 49ers (1-4) were sloppier, overshadowing the gaudy stats they put up on offense. They also failed to force a turnover.“I think we’ve been close to winning. It’s not an excuse. We definitely should have won more games than we have,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “We’ve got to find ways to not turn it over and get the ball in the end zone.”Some other notes and things to watch:BACKING KICKERMcCarthy offered a vote of confidence for Mason Crosby following the kicker’s awful game against Detroit, going 1 of 5 on field-goal attempts and missing his only extra-point try. Crosby was 10 of 11 on the year before last week, including two 52-yarders in Week 4 against Buffalo. He also missed an extra-point attempt in that game.“He’s a proven, highly successful kicker, I still believe in him J'Mon Moore Color Rush Jersey ,” McCarthy said. “But he knows it – he has to make those kicks. … So hopefully we’ll learn from it and move on.”NOT PRIMEThe 49ers were expected to be an intriguing team based on a five-game winning streak to end last year with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback. That earned them five prime-time games, starting with the trip to Green Bay.But the Niners are a much less compelling draw with a losing record and Garoppolo out for the season with a knee injury. They already had a game on Oct. 21 against the Rams moved out of prime time and could lose another in December at Seattle as viewers are less interested in watching backup C.J. Beathard than Garoppolo.“When things are good, you’re on top of the world, people praise you,” Beathard said. “When things are bad, they’ll bash you and you’ve just got to take both of those the same way and not even acknowledge anything on the outside.”RODGERS’ KNEEThe two-time NFL MVP seems to be moving a little better each week after hurting his left knee in the first half of the season-opening win over the Bears. Rodgers, though, did say he took a shot to the knee early in the Lions game that might require him to keep wearing a brace. He also had to play last week without injured receivers Randall Cobb (hamstring) and Geronimo Allison (concussion/hamstring). Allison did at least clear the concussion protocol this week. The Packers will get a break after the 49ers game with a bye week.OPEN SCREENShorter is better for Beathard. The 49ers were able to exploit Arizona’s defense with screen passes, with Beathard going 11 for 14 for 130 yards and a TD on throws that didn’t cross the line of scrimmage. His 129.2 passer rating on those passes eclipsed his 60.3 rating on passes beyond the line of scrimmage.“Screens are always hit or miss https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Nick-Perry-Jersey ,” Shanahan said. “Sometimes, you catch them in blitzes. If you can get it off and no one sees the guy you’re screening to, there’s a lot of room to run.”RUN DOWNAaron Jones might be the most explosive option out of the Packers’ crowded backfield, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. But he was limited to seven carries for 40 yards last week as Green Bay played catch-up against Detroit. Jamaal Williams starts the game and is good in pass protection, while Ty Montgomery is a receiving threat out of the backfield. If the Packers can play with an early lead, they might be able to give the ball more to Jones to run and balance the offense.___AP Pro Football Writer Josh Dubow contributed to this story.___

football world on Saturday night and one of the many storylines flowing out of that announcement is the ascension of Jacoby Brissett to the top spot on the quarterback depth chart in Indianapolis.Brissett has served as the starter this preseason and he started 15 games for the Colts when Luck was out with a shoulder injury in 2017 T.J. Green Color Rush Jersey , so General Manager Chris Ballard has had many chances to watch him play over the last few years. Those experiences have left him feeling confident that Brissett can thrive at the job thrust into his hands on Saturday.“We’ve got a good football team. This is a good football team. We’re young, good on both fronts, some good young skill players and a good young quarterback in Jacoby Brissett,” Ballard said. “We’re not gonna ask Jacoby Brissett to be Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck was a unique, unique player https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Matthias-Farley-Jersey , but Jacoby Brissett is a winning football player in this league. Jacoby Brissett is a rare, rare leader. He is. He’s a rare human being, man. That locker room loves Jacoby Brissett. They love him.”Head coach Frank Reich echoed much of what Ballard said while polishing off the eternal football chestnut of “next man up” in regard to the team’s philosophy moving forward. This will be one of the bigger tests of that notion, although the work Ballard and Reich have done to build out the rest of the roster offer better chance for success than the last time Brissett was the team’s starter. Brett Kollmann, writer for SB Nation’s Houston Texans blog Battle Red Blog, and one of the best breaker-downer of films in the business, has set his sights on the Seattle Seahawks again, thankfully. This time he’s looking at the deep ball connection between Russell Wilson and Tyler Lockett, which I am sure will be a subject of great conversation among coaches and general managers around the NFL this offseason as teams search for their own ways to have a combo that has a perfect 158.3 passer rating between them.Watch the video to hear Kollmann break down the reasons for the success between this duoand why Lockett might not even know where he’s going until seconds after the ball has already been snapped. Wilson to Lockett in 2018 was nearly perfect, which is even more impressive when you consider that much of it was ... improv.

Today https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Bernie-Kosar-Jersey , the Cleveland Browns are back on the road to take on the Houston Texans. To help preview a few topics from the Texans’ perspective, we reached out to Brett Kollman from Battle Red Blog and exchanged five questions with him. Enjoy!Q: After Will Fuller’s injury, who has been the Texans receiving threat after DeAndre Hopkins? Brett: It’s been kind of a group effort to replace Fuller’s production to be honest, with Demaryius Thomas having a few key grabs, KeKe Coutee pitching in here and there (when he’s actually on the field), and even the tight ends getting more involved in the red zone. No one single player could ever replace Fuller’s unique role in this offense, but as a team that have done a good job of compensating for his loss. The key will be if DT can catch some lightning in a bottle and return to his previous Pro Bowl form for the last two months of the season — if he does, this offense will be as dangerous as ever. Q: For the Texans to go 0-3 and then rebound to win 8 straight games is pretty impressive. They’ve also been allowing an average of less than 20 points per game in their last 7 contests. However, I see a lot of weak offensive teams during that stretch. What are your thoughts on the team’s turnaround? Brad Mills-USA TODAY SportsBrett: The pass rush has covered up for a lot of the issues this team had in their pass defense earlier in the year, and Houston’s safety group has had a tremendous year as well. Overall I still think this team has a problem at corner, but as long as Watt and Clowney can keep the pressure up, and as long as Reid and Jackson can keep owning the middle of the field, they are a very dangerous defense. Not elite like Chicago of course, but still very dangerous. The key for them is just forcing quarterbacks to hold the ball and taking away cheap throws over the middle, and restrict them to lower percentage throws on the boundaries. Nothing cheap, nothing deep — that’s the motto. Q: If there is something the Texans struggle with defensively, what is it?Brett: Anything that attacks linebackers in coverage. Neither of Houston’s starting inside linebackers - Bernardrick McKinney and Zach Cunningham - are very good in man coverage against quicker running backs or tight ends. Cunningham is probably the better of the two, but not by much. Duke Johnson and David Njoku are probably Cleveland’s best matchups on the field this week. If they can exploit these linebackers in man coverage, they have a shot to really move the ball on this defense. Q: Who is the strength and weakness of the Texans’ offensive line? Brett: I don’t necessarily think any one player is a strength because there is not a single Pro Bowl caliber player in that unit Derrick Kindred Jersey , but as a collective they have done a much better job of protecting Watson as of late. I think the biggest reason for that is improvement in communication rather than improvement in talent or technique. Stunts and exotic blitzes absolutely KILLED this line earlier in the year because they simply could not communicate and handle those stunts effectively, but in the last month or so something has finally clicked there and they’ve been much better at passing rushers off to one another. On top of that, Watson finally being more healthy himself has contributed to their improvement in sack and pressure rate because he’s been able to use that mobility to escape some sure sacks and turn them into big gains. That element certainly cannot be overlooked.Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsBut in terms of weaknesses, if you rush five at them (without any stunts) and force them to block everyone one on one they can still struggle quite a bit — especially if those extra bodies are just used to clog up escape lanes and keep Watson in the pocket. I think the Browns defensive line is probably the last thing they want to see right now because they can send four or five at you with nothing fancy and just wreck the game. Overall I think Cleveland has a big advantage in the trenches on that side of the ball for that reason alone.Q: Tell us about one player on offense and one player on defense who Browns fans may not know, but who has played a nice role for Houston this year.Brett: Kareem Jackson has been an absolute animal this year regardless of what position he’s playing, whether it be corner or safety. He’s arguably the best tackler on the team and is a demon in run support out on the edges, and he’s been jumping routes and making big plays on the ball over the middle a lot more often this season as well. This might be the best year he’s ever had in Houston, and that’s saying something considering he’s a 10-year vet. Geoff Burke-USA TODAY SportsOn offense, KeKe Coutee has been electric when he’s actually healthy (which is almost never). Houston has been trying to find a dangerous weapon out of the slot ever since Bill O’Brien came to town, and in Coutee they finally have that. He’s a fantastic route runner and can win on third down with startling regularity, but he’s also a threat to take any short pass for a big gain after the catch with his quickness and vision in space. Unfortunately a hamstring injury that has lingered since training camp has really limited his overall production this year, but man when he’s healthy 鈥?look out. Thanks again to Brett for taking the time to answer our questions. It’s time for our annual off-topic discussion of who will watch the Super Bowl’s lead-out program. NBC has the broadcast rights to Super Bowl 53, and the last time they had an opportunity to air something, they chose to air The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2016, which got 20.55 million viewers. This year, CBS is airing the series premiere of The World’s Best, a reality talent competition. The performers will be judged by Drew Barrymore, RuPaul and Faith Hill, and James Corden will serve as the series host. I usually try to tune in to post-Super Bowl programs Myles Garrett Color Rush Jersey , but this program doesn’t do it for me. It sounds just like America’s Got Talent on NBC. Matt LaFleur’s offense in a game Brett Favre Color Rush Jersey , but the start of the offseason program means some hints about how the offense will look are starting to come to light.Wide receiver Davante Adams shared one when he spoke to reporters on Wednesday. Randall Cobb is in Dallas and the team doesn’t have an obvious slot receiver, which has led to plans for Adams to move inside at times during the 2019 season.Adams said that he sees potential positives to that arrangement.“I think that’s something that Matt is definitely looking forward to having me do, and I’m definitely looking forward to doing the same thing,” Adams said https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Paul-Hornung-Jersey , via PackersNews.com. “I think the versatility is putting these defenses in a bind as far as coverages they can play and guys they can match with. [They] may not want to travel so-and-so with me inside. If that will take their No. 1 off me, and I can get some mismatches maybe on the backer or the safety or anybody else, I think that is beneficial.”Quarterback Aaron Rodgers noted Adams has the ability to play a variety of roles and it seems that Green Bay has designs on taking advantage of that ability any way they can. is the salary cap. On the one hand https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Henry-Anderson-Jersey , it seems straight forward. On the other hand, it can get dicey and confusing. All General Managers have a salary cap that all teams must fit under. Simple, right? It gets more complicated in a hurry. After all, teams with very little cap space frequently sign marquee players to high dollar contracts. This is accomplished through bonuses, incentive-laden contract clauses, and back-loading a deal where the bulk of the contract’s value is paid in years the team expects to have more cap space. This salary cap planning and “manipulation” is what NFL salary capologists like Mike Bluem spend their time considering every day. How can we plan for the future in a way that allows Chris Ballard and Jim Irsay to field a team with the most talent in the NFL for the longest period of time? We can’t simply spend all the way up to the salary cap every year, leaving no space available, and hope to keep the nucleus together. Major contracts for our own players will consistently require work as the old ones expire and new deals need to be made.Keeping in mind the needs for our own players, how much salary cap space do we have to work with to sign free agents and bring in outside talent? How do we work all of this together to make sure we stay above the NFL’s mandated 89 percent rule? This week, we’ll take a look at these questions and do our best to shed light on the NFL salary cap, 89 percent rule, and what fans might be able to expect Chris Ballard and Mike Bluem to do in 2019 and beyond.Evaluating the Colts Top Positional NeedsIt is hard to believe how far the Colts have come at positions of need from the end of the 2017 season. Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, we included pass rush, off-ball linebackers, offensive line, and running backs at the top of the list. While the need for pass rush remains, there is very little need to commit significant resources to adding off-ball linebackers, offensive line, or running backs. At this point, the Colts defense desperately needs to find help rushing the passer. The unit did a great job stopping the run but the defensive line, secondary symbiosis was off for much of the season and made life particularly difficult against strong offenses and good quarterbacks. As the symbiosis suggests, more help in the secondary, especially in terms of depth is important and the work to add to the interior of the defensive line will never end. In particular, the safety position could go through considerable turnover if Chris Ballard chooses not to retain his own free agents. On offense, Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton would benefit considerably by adding a couple of legitimate threats at wide receiver through the draft or free agency. Our list: Pass Rush, Wide Receiver, Secondary, Defensive Line — Depth?Outside Free Agent Prospects and Contract ExpectationsFor the purposes of projecting impact players who could attract Chris Ballard’s attention Joe Haeg Jersey , we will use his modus operandi as a guide. We are looking for players who are still relatively young, do not have known locker room or off-field issues to speak of, and players who could offer nice value relative to their expected contract.Edge RusherTrey Flowers — It is really hard to get a read on what motivates Bill Belichick as it relates to retaining his own free agents. On the one hand, Flowers is clearly a talented pass rusher and likely the best pass rushing talent on his team. On the other hand, Belichick has regularly allowed players who have had career seasons go in free agency as he appears supremely confident that he can replace the production with cheaper options.Flowers has played three consecutive seasons with 6.5 or more sacks for the Patriots. This isn’t playing at an elite pass rushing level but he is still only 25 years old and plays in a more complex defense than he would in Indianapolis. Could he see a spike in production with the Colts?Spotrac projects his average annual salary at $15.3M, in line with contracts offered to Calais Campbell, Olivier Vernon, and Jason Pierre-Paul. This seems pretty hefty for his level of production but pass rushers in free agency are expensive. The total contract value is expected to be in the range of $76,856,890 for 5 years.Preston Smith — The Washington Redskins are staring at an interesting future. They have a relatively small amount of expected cap space, numerous players hitting free agency, and have to determine how they want to plan for the future. They will certainly try to retain Smith but if he wants to test the water in free agency there could be greener pastures and deeper pockets available.Spotrac projects his average annual salary at $11.1M, in line with contracts offered to Nick Perry and Jabaal Sheard a few years ago. The total contract is expected to be in the range of $44,760,200 for 4 years.Dante Fowler, Jr. — The Rams are heading to the Super Bowl and they have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. Fowler was a nice pickup from the Jaguars to add to their edge rushing presence but it will be interesting to see what Sean McVay has in mind for his team in 2019. What could make Fowler intriguing is that he shouldn’t have an exorbitant price tag. He has yet to make a leap to NFL relevance as a pass rusher. He may never make the leap but at 26 years old he could be an interesting, young prospect. I would expect his contract to be around what it took to sign Adrian Clayborn and Brandon Graham, who were paid an average of $5M and $6.5M respectively. We will split the difference and project $5.75M for a one- or two-year deal.Wide ReceiverAdam Humphries — Humphries has entered each of his NFL seasons as a tertiary receiving option but regularly outperforms expectations. A former undrafted player on a team with big names and big personalities on the field with him, Humphries has generated over 600 yards and caught over 50 passes in each of the last three seasons. He is coming off of the most productive season of his career with over 800 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. He is the type of reliable, possession receiver the Colts could use as a meaningful part of the offensive game plan.Spotrac projects his average annual salary at $10.4M per year, in line with contracts offered to Tyler Lockett and Doug Baldwin. The total contract value is expected to be in the range of $42M for 4 years.Tyrell Williams — Williams had the best season of his career in 2016 when Keenan Allen suffered a season-ending injury in the season opener. That season, he caught 69 passes for 1059 yards and 7 touchdowns. Since then, his “disappointing” seasons have generated 728 and 653 yards and 4 and 5 touchdowns in 2017 and 2018, respectively. He plays on a team that is loaded with offensive weapons like Keenan Allen, Mike Williams (who makes him expendable), Travis Benjamin, Hunter Henry, Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler. There is only so much football to go around and Williams has still been relatively productive. It is easy to believe that a change of scenery could reignite Williams’ career (think Eric Ebron) and his familiarity with Frank Reich’s offense makes him a logical target. He is still only 27 years oldSpotrac projects his average annual salary at $9.6M. The total contract value is expected to be in the range of $29M for 3 years. For those who are wondering John Simon Color Rush Jersey , the Colts could add Williams and Humphries for about the same cap hit as it would take to bring in Antonio Brown and wouldn’t have to give up a draft pick or other trade pieces to get them.ANALYSISFor the sake of analyzing the possible impact on the salary cap and how much room the Colts would have overall, let’s assume the Colts sign Dante Fowler Jr. and Tyrell Williams — which we acknowledge is an unlikely scenario. After “signing” in-house free agents the team was left with $87,873,975 in available cap. These contracts would cost $15,350,000 in this hypothetical and that would leave $72,523,975 in cap space remaining, good for sixth in the NFL — assuming teams projected at 1-5 haven’t spent any of their own salary cap acquiring players. This is $22,734,316 more than the Colts retained in available cap at the end of 2018. The Colts’ 2018 draft class likely goes down as one of the best in team history if for no other reasons than Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard. Both earned All-Pro honors last season, and Leonard was defensive rookie of the year. But don’t forget about receiver Deon Cain, a sixth-round pick. The Colts haven’t. “You guys know we were very excited about what Deon showed [early in training camp], how quickly he picked things up and the playmaking ability that he showed,” coach Frank Reich said, via Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. Cain tore an anterior cruciate ligament in the 2018 preseason opener Aug. 7 and spent his rookie season rehabbing. It remains unknown when Cain will get back on the field as a full participant, but he figures to be contributing at least by the season opener.Cain projects as the fourth receiver behind T.Y. Hilton, Devin Funchess and Parris Campbell.“I feel like everyone hyped up [by what I did] in practice,” Cain said. “Everybody knows that I’m more of a gamer. That’s just totally me. Practice you are supposed to do that and the game you are just supposed to have fun. “I’m more excited about the preseason than anyone else to go out there, get my feet wet and make plays. That’s what I’m supposed to do. I’m actually ready for the games. That’s how I know I can really get jiggy.”

Specifically, they have addressed multiple needs through the drafting of the following players:DE L.J. Collier of TCU with pick 29 of Round 1, S Marquise Blair of Utah with Pick 47 of Round 2, WR D.K. Metcalf of Ole Miss with Pick 64 of Round 2,LB Cody Burton of Utah with Pick 88 of round 3,WR Gary Jennings of West Virginia with pick 120 of round 4, G Phil Haynes of Wake Forest with pick 124 of round 4 and CB Ugo Amadi of Oregon with pick 132 of round 4. LB Ben Burr-Kirven of Washington with pick 142 of round 5After making those selections, the team held two more picks at 204 and 209. With pick 204 of the sixth round the team has drafted RB Travis Homer out of Miami. How do you grade the use of pick 204 on Travis Homer? DENVER (AP) — The NFL spent a lot of time and effort in the offseason simplifying what constitutes a catch and trying to make the game safer with new rules that require both offensive and defensive players to use their heads and not their helmets.Blunders, however, are here to stay.Take Rob Gronkowski’s spectacular 28-yard catch between two Texans defenders — which maybe wasn’t really a catch — that set up a touchdown in the final seconds of the first half Nazair Jones Color Rush Jersey , giving the Patriots a 21-6 lead on their way to a 27-20 victory Sunday. The catch stood as called, not because NFL headquarters confirmed the reception upon review, but because the league didn’t buzz the officials on the field fast enough to stop the next snap so they could further scrutinize Gronk’s grab.“New York did get back to us,” referee Tony Corrente said. “However, unfortunately, they didn’t get the game officials on the field until after the (next) play had already started.”Crucially, the catch/non-catch stood as called.Houston coach Bill O’Brien, who would have been penalized for throwing his red challenge flag inside the 2-minute warning, could have called timeout to allow the league office more time. But he said he didn’t have a good view of the play himself.Anyway, the clock was running and O’Brien figured the Texans could hold New England to a field goal. They couldn’t.Tom Brady threw a 14-yard TD pass with 23 seconds left.O’Brien said Monday he thinks it was indeed a catch by Gronkowski.“On the coach’s film, I really do,” O’Brien said. “He went up; he caught it; he kept both hands underneath it. Now relative to some TV angles and some other video angles that I’ve seen, maybe it was questionable. From the coach’s vantage point on the coach’s tape 12th Fan Color Rush Jersey , it looked like a catch to me.”We’ll never know what Al Riveron, the NFL’s senior vice president of officiating, would have ruled.SEATTLE SLOWSeahawks coach Pete Carroll was slow on the draw in Denver after Broncos rookie running back Royce Freeman put the ball on the ground for an apparent fumble Sunday. But just like Brady in Foxborough, Case Keenum hustled up to the line and the Broncos got the next snap off quickly.“They were going fast and I had a couple of seconds to throw it and I’ve got to find an official,” Carroll explained after Seattle’s 27-24 loss. “I threw it, but he said it was too late to call it, which I’m sure he was right about that. I just needed to respond a little bit faster. I didn’t hear the word from upstairs as quickly as I needed to get it executed before they hurried up.“That’s how the hurry-up does help you once in a while.”Or hurt you. FLAG FOOTBALL There were 26 penalties enforced in the NFL opener between the Eagles and Falcons to go with offsetting penalties on a Philadelphia punt in the fourth quarter.Eagles coach Doug Pederson, however, is convinced the officials accidentally called a foul on them when it was actually on Atlanta. The officials called holding on No. 39 of the Eagles even though there wasn’t anyone on the field for Philly wearing that number. Replays showed that No. 39 on the Falcons, Deante Burton, committed holding.OUT OF SIGHT …Seattle six-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas ended his holdout last week after his pay-me-or-trade-me demands were ignored by the Seahawks. He had an interception that set up Seattle’s first touchdown of the season.Two-time Pro Bowl running back Le’Veon Bell stayed away from the Pittsburgh Steelers amid public criticism from some of his own offensive linemen. And his replacement starred.By reporting to the Seahawks last week, albeit begrudgingly, Thomas assured he won’t miss out on his roughly $500 Tyler Lockett Color Rush Jersey ,000 weekly paychecks, although he still wants more than the $8.5 million he’ll make in 2018, in the final year of his contract.“During the game I’m not thinking about it,” Thomas said. “I’m out here having fun with B-Mac (safety Bradley McDougald) and the guys. So, I’m not thinking about it. When I get asked about it, it definitely runs across my mind.”Bell’s contract dispute triggered teammates to turn on him last week, when center Maurkice Pouncey said, “Honestly it’s a little selfish. I’m kind of (ticked) right now. It sucks that he’s not here. We’ll move on as a team.”That, they did.On a day quarterback Ben Roethlisberger struggled throwing three interceptions and fumbling twice, Bell’s sub, James Conner, was steady, scoring two touchdowns Frank Clark Color Rush Jersey , rushing for 135 yards and adding 57 more on five catches as the Steelers escaped Cleveland with a 21-21 tie.His 192 total yards matched Bell’s best game from last season.“I’m so tired of Le’Veon,” Steelers right guard David DeCastro told reporters. “I’m so tired of it. Let’s just worry about the guys that are here. I know you guys have stories to write and what not. I love Le’Veon, but we have to worry about the guys that are here. That’s the only people that matter.”TWITTER TROLLDez Bryant is no longer with the Dallas Cowboys, but on Sunday his thoughts sure were .The free-agent wide receiver called out his former team with a series of critical tweets as the Cowboys lost their opener, 16-8 at Carolina.Bryant was released in April after eight seasons with the team and remains unsigned. When one fan asked Bryant to have his agent call Cowboys owner Jerry Jones so Dallas could re-sign him, the three-time Pro Bowl selection said he could be a good fit in New England or with the Cowboys’ NFC East rivals in Washington.Learning that Jones left the locker room quickly without comment as most reporters were interviewing running back Ezekiel Elliott, Bryant responded, “I love Jerry ,”“I honestly don’t think HE wanted me gone so I feel his pain,” Bryant wrote.

    — and according to rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Seth-Devalve-Jersey , dangerous. The Cleveland Browns are looking a lot better these days. Not great, but improved. Greatly improved. Two weeks after coach Hue Jackson’s long overdue firing, the Browns showed a glimpse of a brighter future with their best all-around game in several seasons, a convincing 28-16 victory on Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons.Taking their cues from Mayfield and interim coach Gregg Williams, whose odds of becoming Cleveland’s next full-time coach may not be as ridiculous as they once seemed, the Browns (3-6-1) took apart a team with playoff hopes.Cleveland was balanced on offense, sound defensively and the Browns’ special teams avoided the kind of fatal mistakes that led to so many tough losses earlier this season.“We just finally put four quarters of football together,” said safety Damarious Randall. “Just to see us put it together now shows where this team is pointing and the direction we are going. We are going to keep on building on that and keep fighting.”Mayfield’s leading the charge.Matched up against one of the NFL’s best in Matt Ryan, Mayfield was nearly perfect while outplaying his more celebrated quarterbacking counterpart. Mayfield completed his first 13 passes, finished 17 of 20 for 217 yards and threw three touchdown passes as the Browns posted their largest win since Dec. 13, 2015 — a span of 44 games. When it ended, with the rare sight of Cleveland fans actually still in their seats cheering and not heading toward the exits Kevin Zeitler Jersey , Mayfield met Ryan and shared a hug with Atlanta’s star at midfield before filming a promotional selfie video for the team’s website and then sprinting off like a 10-year-old and leaping and bumping with Randall in the end zone.Moments later, Mayfield playfully told reporters he woke up feeling “pretty dangerous.” He’s been scary over the past four weeks, throwing nine TD passes with just two interceptions and making better decisions. It was Mayfield’s second game with offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, the team’s running backs coach thrust into the coordinator’s role when Todd Haley was fired after Jackson on Oct. 29. Kitchens has catered Cleveland’s offense to suit Mayfield’s strengths, and his quicker throws have been effective in moving the ball and keeping him safe. For the first time this season, the Browns did not give up a sack.Williams said the Mayfield-Kitchens pairing will only get better.“Both of their styles and both of their personalities, they respect each other,” Williams said. “They both understand each other. When that respect is well enough, maybe they might even like each other later on, but there has to be a respect of those and us together with coaches and players that we both are on the same page and we know what we are doing for things to grow. I think Freddie and Baker are doing a great job with that.”Williams, too, should take a bow. In no time Joel Bitonio Color Rush Jersey , he’s made the Browns better.Sometimes brash and boastful, Williams has toned down his public personality while providing strong, needed leadership to a team that had tuned out Jackson after two losing seasons. The Browns are responding to the 60-year-old Williams, who coached Buffalo from 2001-03 and worked his way back up the ranks after he was suspended by the league in 2012.Williams laughed hard when asked if the past two weeks have reminded an “old timer” he still had what it takes to be a head coach.“I never thought it left,” he said. But as far as his future in Cleveland, Williams insists he’s not campaigning for the job. At this point, the Browns’ play is doing the lobbying for him. When pressed about whether he would like to be the next coach of the Browns, Williams showed a politician’s elusiveness.“You know what?” he said on a conference call as the Browns began their bye week. “I like being employed. I enjoy the head coaching part of it. I enjoy all these parts of it, but understand the big part of what we are doing is we get the players the focus, get me to focus on one day at a time and we have to keep on moving on in the right direction.”NOTES: Williams only planned to give his players Tuesday off, but “threw them a bone” following the win and gave them Monday as well. The players are free this week with the exception of medical treatments and phone meetings. … Williams said LT Greg Robinson “played well” in his second start, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stay in the lineup following the bye. Rookie Desmond Harrison started Cleveland’s first eight games before being sidelined with an unspecified illness. Wow!That one was fun https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Terrance-Mitchell-Jersey , as our beloved Cleveland Browns did something they had not done since 1990, and defeated the Denver Broncos in prime time, 17-16.I get into it all in my postgame edition of Ez Does it.Baker Mayfield had a lot of positive press coming into this one, and really did not live up to it in the first half.Really just seemed off. However, he composed himself and came out in the 2nd half improved and along with an inspired effort by the defense (with a key contribution from Jabrill Peppers, who had his best day as a pro) was able to pull out this tough fault battle, keeping our (mostly imaginary) playoff hopes alive.Give it a listen by utilizing the player at the top of the page, the widget located in between the article and comments’ section (of not just this but every DBN article) or just go here:Appreciate comments’ and feedback in the comments’ section below. If you’d like to reach me personally it can be done via email: ezweav@gmail.comOtherwise:The FacebookThe TwitterThanks for listening!

replacements for their head coaching positions Aaron Ripkowski Color Rush Jersey , former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is only interested in one opening. The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets.According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, McCarthy doesn’t want to be considered for any head coaching opening outside of the New York Jets.McCarthy was fired by the Packers in early December prior to the conclusion of his 13th season as head coach in Green Bay. The Cleveland Browns reportedly had interest in McCarthy but have instead appeared to narrow their focus down to Freddie Kitchens and Kevin Stefanski for their opening. The Browns, Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins remain without head coaches for the time being. The reality is McCarthy may have not been considered by any of the teams that still have vacancies outside of the Jets once the Browns focused in on Kitchens and Stefanski. Nevertheless, the chance to work with a second-year quarterback in Sam Darnold would prove to be an enticing aspect of working for the Jets over the next few seasons. The Jets have interviewed McCarthy https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Demetri-Goodson-Jersey , Kliff Kingsbury (hired by Arizona), Jim Caldwell, Todd Monken, Eric Bieniemy and Adam Gase for the job. With the position coaches finally all in place, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur appears to be zeroing in on a new special teams coordinator to replace Ron Zook. According to Tom Silverstein of Packersnews.com, the Packers’ top candidate at this time is current Vanderbilt special teams coordinator Shawn Mennenga, who recently interviewed for the job.Mennenga has spent one year at Vanderbilt in that position, working under head coach Derek Mason as the Commodores went 6-7. The kicking game at Vanderbilt was inconsistent, as first-year kicker Riley Guay made just 13 of his 22 field goal attempts. However JK Scott Jersey , senior punter Parker Thome averaged 44.9 yards per punt (gross), a better result.Prior to last season, Mennenga worked for the Cleveland Browns as an assistant special teams coach for seven seasons. Two of those years came with current Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as the Browns’ head coach and defensive back Tramon Williams on the roster. The special teams units Mennenga worked on were largely effective, particularly before Hue Jackson arrived in Cleveland; the Browns ranked no lower than 15th in special teams DVOA from 2011 to 2015 and placed as high as second in 2012, before ranking 26th and 27th in 2016 and 2017, respectively.Mennenga also has experience as a defensive coordinator and head coach in the lower levels of college football. Stay tuned for more updates on Mennenga and his potential hire in the coming days.
